Dan West was a
farmer (کشاورز) who lived in Ohio. Ohio is in
America. Ohio has many farms (مزرعه). People grow (کاشتن) vegetables like you. They have cows, sheep, goats and chickens like you.
World War Two (جنگ جهانی دوم) came.
Dan worked to
help (کمک کردن) refugees. Refugees (مهاجر) are people who must leave (ترک کردن) their home because of
war or other problems (مشکل).
Dan gave (give: دادن) each
refugee a
cup of milk every day. One day he said, “These people don’t need (نیاز داشتن) a
cup of milk, they need a cow!”
Dan came
home after
the war. He told (tell: گفتن) the people in his town (شهر) his idea. They liked his idea. 17 families gave Dan 1 cow to send (ارسال داشتن) to families
in Puerto
Rico. Dan sent the cows on a boat (کشتی)! Can you imagine (تصور کردن) 17 cows
on a boat? Then they sent animals to other countries.
Every family who got an animal gave (give: دادن) the first baby
animal to a friend or neighbor. That way, the
people helped each other (یکدیگر). Dan wanted people to be able to help themselves (خودشان).
You know that cows give milk people can drink and sell (فروختن). From milk you can make
cheese and butter
to eat and sell. Cows give more baby
cows!
With
more food and money, people could build (ساختن) schools, better
homes, and
roads.
Today, 20
million
(20,000,000) families in 125 countries have been given animals to help them live better (بهتر). Families get cows, goats, sheep, or chickens.
And all this began with 1 idea and 17 cows.
