#15 Song Maker

A true story with a happy ending.

It was noon (ظهر).  The hottest hour of the day. It was 32 degrees (درجه) Celsius. Even the wind was too tired to blow (وزیدن). Suddenly, I heard a bang (سر و صدا) on the window. I ran outside (بیرون). I saw a small bird lying (دراز کشیدن) on the ground. By mistake she flew (fly:  پرواز کردن) into the window and hurt (اسیب زدن) herself. Her eyes were closed. I gently (ملایم) put the little bird in my hands. The bird is called a “Song Sparrow”. Song Sparrows sing beautiful songs.   All summer they fill the garden with songs.
I found a place in the shade (سایه) to hold her until she could fly again.  Usually (معمولا), when a bird hits (خوردن به) a window, after it rests (استراحت کردن) 10 or 15 minutes, it can fly again.
“Don’t be afraid,” I said to her quietly (بی سر و صدا), like a little prayer.  I told her how beautiful she was.  I told her I loved her songs.
After 10 minutes she sat up in my hand and looked at me. But she didn’t fly away! She cleaned (شستن) her feathers (پر). Then she closed her eyes and fell asleep! Ten minutes later she opened her eyes and began to sing. First she turned her head to the right and then to the left. I looked at her bright (روشن) little eyes, small feathers, and delicate (شکننده) feet.
“What a little miracle (معجزه) you are!” I said to her. “I’m so happy that God made each of your little feathers and gave you such a beautiful voice!” She looked at me and happily jumped from my left hand to my right hand. Then, she sat on my knee (زانو). Finally, she flew to a tree, sat on a branch (شاخه) and looked at me.  I went back to work and the Song Sparrow began to sing.
