Little girls can do big things

Girl Scouts is an old organization in America that many girls join. It was started in the year 1912.  Girl Scouts learn how to do many useful things and learn how to make useful things. They learn how to help other people. They study important subjects like caring for the environment.
This story is about one Girl Scout Troop (group) in the state of Colorado that did something really big.

The girls studied the effects (اثر) of smoking ( سیگار کشیدن ).  When they learned how harmful ( مضر ) it was, especially ( بخصوص ) to people around those smoking, they wanted to do something about it. The girls asked their troop (group) leader if they could learn how to write a law ( قانون ) to stop adults ( بالغ ) smoking in cars when children are in the car.
First, the girls went to their town officials ( مقامات ) and asked them how new laws are made.  For one year, the girls went every week to learn about laws and how they are made.  The town officials then helped them write a law that would make it illegal ( غیر مجاز ) to smoke in a car if there were children in the car.
The girls also had to do a lot of research ( پژوهش ) to get facts about how smoking is bad for you.  They had to be able to show people why their new law was important.
Last week their new law was voted on and won!  But not everyone was happy.  Some people thought it was not right for the government to tell people where and when they could smoke. They thought people should be free to make this decision ( تصمیم گیری ) themselves.
What do you think?  Should the government have the power to tell you if you can smoke?

People who break the law will have to pay $150 and do some hours of work in the community.
The girls learned a lot about law!  They had to rewrite their law many times to make it as fair as possible.  The girls were really happy when the law passed.  They said it helped them understand that girls do have a voice and can do great things!
If you could write a new law for your town, what law would you write?
